Am i getting elastic bands on my braces?

A few appointments ago my orthodontist put a silver metal band where the colour bands go on one of the brackets with the little hooks on them. That probably doesn’t really make any Sense but it makes Sense to me (:
They didnt ever tell me what they were doing becaus e they didnt speak very good english. lol. but now ive moved orthadontist becuase the other one closed. but all they said was that they were going to put a bracket on the tooth that is coming through at the top.

I had braces a few years ago and they put those brackets in. On my next appointment, I got rubber bands.

I don’t understand why they wouldn’t tell you if you were getting them, though.
